Support/Talk Group Services
Support/talk group
services are an important component of the
services provided through the Desert Rainbow
Center. All support/talk groups are
confidential and offer a safe, non-judgmental
environment. The following is a list of the
group sessions held at the center:
The Young
People’s Project Friday Night Movie takes
place on the 2nd and 4th
Friday of the month at 7:00 p.m. and features
movies geared towards gay and lesbian issues. A
discussion of the movie’s theme follows. The
Friday Night Movie provides an added support
component where gay, lesbian, bisexual and
transgendered adolescents and young adults are
provided with an opportunity to interact in a
positive group social setting.
Positive
Changes is a support/talk group for
transgendered individuals. Discussion centers
on issues facing transgenders while improving
their communication skills, self-esteem,
self-efficacy and risk-reduction skills.
Meetings are held weekly on Tuesdays.
Positive
Positives is a talk group for men and women
living with HIV and their families. Discussion
helps members to decrease high-risk behaviors
that put them at-risk for reinfection with HIV
or transmitting the virus to others. Meetings
are held on Thursdays.
DADS
Workshops help 16 to 25 year-old fathers
become more involved in their children’s lives,
take financial and emotional responsibility for
them, and postpone additional children until
they are financially and emotionally prepared to
support them. Meetings are held Mondays.
For more information and specific
group meeting times, call the Desert Rainbow
Center at (915)543-3062 and ask to speak with a
group facilitator.
